OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe the whole world is one big outdoor classroom
offering endless opportunities for kids to learn, explore & make
connections that can influence them for a lifetime.

OUR STORY

Greenfeet Guides came into being on a bright, sunny morning in October 2013 at the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Greenfeet Guides founder Ambika was roaming around the temple with her daughters (then ages 5 and 7) doing a scavenger hunt that she had designed at the start of their temple tour. Could they find the carvings of Hanuman the Monkey God, Ravana the Demon King, or King Suryavarman II who had built the magnificent temple 1000 years ago?

It was hot and humid, but the kids went about their mission, and it wasn't until they had found all the clues that they started asking to return to the hotel swimming pool. It occurred to Ambika that other families may share the challenge of wanting to travel the world with kids, but struggle to make unfamiliar cultures and places accessible and enjoyable for them. Ambika's answer to that challenge? Greenfeet Guides!

Ambika is a nature-loving globetrotter, teacher, environmental planner and mom. She has lived with her family in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. She wore a few different hats before writing her first Greenfeet Guide: teaching high school science and English in California, looking for spawning fish as a stream biologist in Washington state, and writing a school curriculum on water for village children in India. When she's not working on Greenfeet Guides, Ambika teaches environmental literacy to primary school children. Listen to her podcast here.
